Softball Splits with Bloomfield Bears in CACC Home Doubleheader
The Nyack College softball team took on Bloomfield at home on Friday, winning the first game 7-2 and taking the second game into extra innings before falling 11-7 to split the conference doubleheader.
 
In the first game, the Warriors jumped out to an early lead when Katie Lupinacci hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first. Alissa Brugnoli followed with a double, and was brought in for another run on Aferdita Sinanaj's RBI single. Bloomfield tied the score in the top of the fourth with two runs, but the Warriors answered in the bottom of the fourth to solidify their lead for the rest of the game. Nicole Wisser started the scoring in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run. Katalina Padilla singled to center, and Kayleigh VanDover was brought in as a pinch runner, coming home on the next at-bat on Brittany Blair's RBI single. Erin O'Brien followed with a single to move Blair to third base, and both jumped into action on the next play, with O'Brien stealing second and Blair stealing home for another Nyack run. Katie Lupinacci finished with a 2-run homer that gave Nyack the 7-2 edge, and the Warriors kept the lead through the end of the game, finishing with a Nyack victory.
 
In the second game, Bloomfield started the scoring with two runs in the top of the second. In the bottom of the second, Morgan Hans walked and then advanced to second on a wild pitch, then was brought in for the score on Nicole Wisser's RBI single. In the bottom of the third inning, Stephanie White led off with a single, followed by Erin O'Brien reaching base on an error and Katie Lupinacci's single to load the bases for Nyack. Alissa Brugnoli hit the ball to right field and reached base on an error, bringing in White for the tying score. Aferdita Sinanaj followed with a 2-RBI single. Sinanaj and Brugnoli advanced into scoring position on Morgan Hans' infield fly, and on a wild pitch, Brugnoli came in for the score. Nicole Wisser followed with a sacrifice fly to bring in Sinanaj, finishing the inning with 5 runs for the Warriors. Bloomfield hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth, but Stephanie White answered immediately for Nyack in the bottom of the sixth with her own solo home run. Bloomfield came back in the top of the seventh with three home runs to score four runs and tie the game. The Warriors were unable to score in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, Bloomfield scored four runs to pull ahead with a lead the Warriors could not overcome, and Nyack ended with an 11-7 loss.
 
Katie Lupinacci led the Warriors with 3 RBIs and 3 combined hits. Alissa Brugnoli and Aferdita Sinanaj also contributed 3 combined hits. Brittany Blair pitched the whole first game to earn the win, and Nicole Wisser started the second game for Nyack.
