Auburndale, FL - The Nyack College softball team returned on Monday for another pair of games against Edinboro and Ferris State. The Warriors collected their first win of the season with a 9-1 outing against Edinboro, before falling to Ferris State 0-6. Nyack is now 1-3 overall this season.
Game 1 - Nyack vs. Edinboro, 9-1 after six innings
The Warriors came out to play in the first game of the day scoring two runs in the top of the first. Erin O'Brien singled up the middle and stole second and eventually reached home plate on a Janelle Adams double. Adams then advanced to third on a passed ball. With Adams on third, freshman Kaila Quick stepped up to plate and drilled the ball down the left field line to drive Janelle Adams home for the 2-0 Nyack lead.
In the top of the third both Arielys Rodriguez and Janelle Adams singled, before it was Quick once again with her first collegiate home run. Nyack scored another pair of runs in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded Jayna Celano forced a walk for the first run of the inning. Moments later her sister Tia Celano followed along and forced another walk to add another run to the scoreboad.
In the top of the sixth Janelle Adams singled up the middle, before Kaila Quick came in clutch for the third time in the game with another home run to round up the Nyack scoring. Edinboro scored their lone run in the bottom of the 6th to finish the game with a final score of 9-1.
The Nyack defense led by pitcher Alyssa Giampolo was on point. Giampolo pitched a perfect game for the first four innings and finished the game with 7 strikeouts, while giving up two hits and an unearned run over six innings.
Game 2 - Nyack vs. Ferris State, 0-6
Nyack struggled in the second game to continue their stellar hitting performance from game one of the day. Ferris State scored four runs in the top of the first, before adding another run in the top of the third and seventh inning for a final score of 0-6.
Highlights: Freshman Kaila Quick scored her first two collegiate home runs against Edinboro and finished the first game with three hits, two runs scored, and six runs batted in. Janelle Adams alos enjoyed a great first game with four perfect trips to the plate, recording four hits, four runs and one run batted in.
Up next: Nyack will be back tomorrow for another set of games against Minn. State Moorhead and Rockhurst at 9am and 11:15am.
