Auburndale, FL - After a day off on Wednesday the Nyack College softball team returned on Thursday for another pair of games against Salem University and Califonia University of Pennsylvnia. The Warriors decided both games in their favor to improve to 3-5 overall record.
Game 1 vs. Salem (WV), 6-2
Salem got on the scorebaord first with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third the Warriors scored twice. Krissy Johnson reached home after Erin O'Brien was thrown out at third and Arielys Rodriguez scored off a Alyssa Giampolo single.
Nyack added another pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to take their first lead. Giampolo scored off an error by the Salem defense. Jayna Celano reached home base after her sister Tia Celano grounded out to second.
But the Warriors weren't done yet. Kaila Quick doubled in the bottom of the sixth and drove Rodriguez home. Giampolo hit a single right after which allowed Quick to score the final run of the game, which ended with a final score of 6-2.
Giampolo led the Warriors in game one with three hits, one run, and two runs batted in. Giampolo also led the Warriors on the mound over the full seven innings allowing seven hits and two runs.
Game 2 vs. Califonia (PA), 8-4 after 9 innings
Nyack started the second game of the day with three runs in the top of the third. Brittany Tomala scored off a Erin O'Brien double. O'Brien then scored off an error by the first basemen, before Arielys Rodriguez scored off a Giampolo single.
California would answer with three runs in the bottom of the 4th to tie the game. Both teams tried to find the game winning run but were unsuccesful, which caused the game to go into extra innings. In the top of the 8th the Warriors made a big step towards their second win of the day. Brittany Tomala scored her second run of the day off a Rodriguez single. But California answered right back with a run of their own in the bottom of the 8th.
In the 9th inning the Warriors loaded the bases and Erin O'Brien hit a grand slam to give Nyack a four run lead. California University was unable to get back and the game finished with a final score of 8-4 in favor of the Warriors.
Erin O'Brien led Nyack in game two with two hits, two runs, and five RBIs.
