Women's Basketball Falls to UScience in Cross-Over CACC Game
Philadelphia, Pa- The women's basketball team was defeated in a CACC matchup against the University of the Sciences (USP) this afternoon by a score of 56-72.
Nyack falls to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Devils improve to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Junior Aika Emmanuel registered double figures with 12 points. Freshman Rachel Burnett added eight points and nine rebounds and senior Ashley Tallman had eight points. Emmanuel also dished out a team-high four assists.
The first half saw USP come out to an 11-2 lead in the first three-plus minutes of game. The Warriors would rebound, cutting the deficit to 15-21 with 9 minutes left in the period. Aika Emmanuel would score four points in the final 25 second to pull the Warriors within one at the break 29-28.
Early in the second half was a back and forth scoring battle between the teams. With the score tied at 35-35, USP would go on a 14-4 run to take a ten point lead, 49-39 with 10 minutes left in the game. Two straight buckets from Nyack cut the gap to 6, but USP would counter with 8 straight points to lead by 14, 44-58 with 7 minutes remaining. Three straight free throws from Senior Khamari Tellis made it an 8 point game, 62-54 with 4:40 left. Despite a late comeback attempt from the Warriors, USP's shooting sealed the victory when they eventually pulled ahead by 16.
The 12-25 point disadvantages off turnovers would end up being the deciding factor in the game.
Nyack will look to rebound this Tuesday as they play Concordia College in a conference matchup at home starting at 6PM.
