Women's Basketball Drop 61-69 Decision To Bowie State In Season Opener

BOWIE, MD (November 8, 2013)

The Nyack women's basketball team opened their 2013-14 campaign with an away match against Bowie State on Friday evening.

A strong second half by the Lady Warriors would not be enough as a 61-69 defeat was reflected against the Bulldogs in this non-conference season opener.

Nyack began the game with an early advantage, taking the lead with the first pair of free throws by Jamie McKeither (Rowlett, TX) and a layup by Mariah Brown (Stockton, CA). By 15:23 the Lady Bulldogs would tie the game 4-4 and for the remainder of the period, both teams alternated between leads to tie the match a total of four more times.

Warrior Jessica Logemann's (Seminol, FL) second made free throw at 05:20 brought Nyack to their last game tie at 20-20 before UDC went on an 8-0 run attempting to further extend their lead. Nyack fought to close the margin trailing by five at halftime, 24-29.

During the 2nd period Nyack struggled to regain momentum. Warriors trailed for the majority of the half and by as many as eleven points until the last six minutes where Nyack forced a 7-0 run to trim the deficit 51-52.

This would be the closest Nyack would get before UDC stretched the lead en route to the 61-69 final result.

Junior guard Brown led the Nyack team with 10 points in her season debut as a Warrior along with 2 rebounds, and 4 assists in the losing effort.

Nyack's returning sophomore McKeither would also post double digits, shooting 100% from the free throw line (10-10) while teammate Brandone Roberts (Jessup, MD) yanked down a team high of 13 rebounds to tie with Bowie's Denver Clyde.

The Lady Warriors out rebounded the Bulldogs by a margin of 52-44.

Women's basketball continues their grind on the road this Saturday to face University of the District of Columbia (UDC) in non-conference play. The game is set to tip at 1pm in Maryland as fans unable to attend can follow the action via Live Video and Live Stats.
