NYACK, NY (November 26, 2013)
The Nyack women's basketball team played their third home game of the season with a 78-74 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the Chargers of Dominican College on Tuesday evening.
The loss dropped Dominican to 2-4, 1-2 CACC on the season and raised Nyack to 2-6, 1-2 CACC as the Lady Warriors tallied their first conference win.
Ten unanswered Charger baskets gave DC a thirteen point lead towards the end of the first half by 4:13 until a 3-pointer by Warrior Mariah Brown (Stockton, CA) jump-started a shift in momentum for Nyack.
Jessica Logemann (Seminole, FL) would drain two back-to-back 3's followed by six consecutive points by Audrey Matteson's hot hand to bring the score 37-35, giving Nyack their first game lead. Dominican snuck in a jump-shot before the period ended, sending both teams into the locker rooms tied 37-37.
It didn't take long for the game to pick up right from where it ended keeping fans at the edge of their seats as both teams continued to battle it out and alternate leads. The match was tied total of six times by the 11:39 mark.
Free throws for the remainder of the half were key to keeping the Warriors alive as Nyack shot an effective 22 of 29 from the line (75.9%) while the Chargers struggled shooting 16-27 (59.3%).
Charger Shannon McGill landed a 3-pointer for DC with four seconds on the clock, however that would not be enough to recover allowing Nyack to secure the 78-74 game win.
Matteson (Monticello, IN) recorded her third double-double on the year with 23 points and a season high 15 rebounds while sophomore Logemann exploded for 17 points off the bench tallying her collegiate career high.
Jamie McKeither (Laurel, MD), Meghan Richards (Nanuet, NY), and Brown all chipped in with 8 points and senior Camille Nwosu (Centreville, VA) pulled down 5 rebounds contributing to the Warrior dominance off the glass as Nyack out rebounded Dominican by a margin of 49-36.
Chargers KC Jetzen and Lashonda Hathorne split 16 points a piece for DC in the losing effort.
The Lady Warriors will enjoy a little over a week off and are set to come back after the Thanksgiving break to travel to Pennsylvania and take on Lincoln College in non-conference action on Thursday December 5th at 6pm.
