Women's Basketball Upended At Lincoln

The Nyack College women's basketball squad traveled out of state to face the Lions of Lincoln University in non-conference play on Thursday evening.

As the Lady Warriors battled to stay in the game, in the end Nyack would be dealt their seventh defeat of the season by a 74-51 final at Rivero Hall.

Lincoln opened the game aggressively to take the lead right from first tip.

At 9:34 senior Ashley Tallman (Rotterdam, NY) netted a three 3-pointer to bring Nyack within four points (15-19) however the Lions responded with three back-to-back 3's of their own over a span of two minutes extending LU to their highest lead of the half 15-28.

A pair of free throws by junior Mariah Brown (Stockton, CA) allowed the Warriors to trim the deficit to single digits by the halftime break (28-37).

In the second half Warriors took control making the first few baskets.

By the 14:28 mark, Jamie McKeither (Laurel, MD) brought Nyack within two points as the score reflected 40-42 in an attempt to get back into the game. This would be the closest the Warriors would get as a 9-0 LU run stretched the Lion lead to eleven points (40-51).

With Nyack struggling with shots from the field the Lions would continue to pull away for the duration of the match to secure their way to victory as the final score reflected 74-51.

Lincoln out rebounded Nyack by a margin of 57-33 and forced more turnovers.

McKeither led the Warriors with a season high 18 points and 9 rebounds on the night while teammate Audrey Matteson (Monticello, IN) recorded 10 points and 6 rebounds. Brown contributed with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and led with teammate Jessica Logemann (Seminol, FL) with a game high 3 assists in the losing effort.

For the Lincoln team Courtney Smith led with 13 points, Deja Taylor with 9 rebounds off the bench, and Cynthia Johnson with dishing 8 assists.

Warrior Hoops take the floor next Saturday at 1pm as they return back to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play vs. the University of the Sciences at Bowman Gymnasium.
