Nyack Basketball Triumphs Over GCU With Victory At Home, 70-53

NYACK, NY –  Leading by just 2 points at halftime, the Nyack College women's basketball team outscored Georgian Court University by 15 points in the second half, as the Warriors picked up an important Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) 70-53 home win on Saturday afternoon.

Inside The Game
Sophomore guard Jamie McKeither (Laurel, MD) endured a competitive game of basketball as the GCU team came out aggressive looking grab a CACC win. Despite the hardship McKeither came out on top draining a career-high 21 points off 8-of-14 shooting and converted 5-of-6 from the line, while junior classmate Audrey Matteson (Monticello, IN) posted 13 points, 3 steals and a team-best 7 rebounds to tie with classmate Meghan Richards (Nanuet, NY). Warrior sophomore Tori Trador (Seminole, FL) recorded 9 points, sophomore Richards recorded 8 points in twenty-one minutes of action off the bench, while Mariah Brown (Stockton, CA) chipped in with 6 buckets of her own and tied a game-high 3 assists with Warrior Matteson and GCU's Brittany Baker. 

Nyack took an early 5-0 lead over GCU after a three-pointer by Trador and a lay-up by McKeither to begin the half. At the 4:35 mark Keosha Parks landed a trey to bring the Lions within one point (20-19) but the Warriors would land ten of the last nineteen points to edge out GCU by the lockeroom break, 30-28.

In the second half Parks brought GCU to their first lead on the night with a layup at 17:13 as the score reflected 34-33. Eight back-to-back points quickly brought Nyack back on top (41-34) and from here both teams continued to alternate baskets. By 2:05 it would be a ten point ball game with Nyack maintaining control (61-51) as they closed out the contest with a 9-0 run. GCU managed to score one last shot with 00:12 remaining but it would not be enough as the Warriors sealed the 70-53 win on the day.

A Closer Look

  • GCU finished 18-of-44 (40.9 percent) from the floor and 5-of-10 (50.0 percent) from behind the arc.
  • The Warrior bench tallied 19 points compared to GCU's bench who contributed with 12 points.
  • Nyack forced 36 GCU turnovers, as well as posting 36 points off the forced turnovers.
  • The Lions out-rebounded Nyack 20-14 in the 1st half but in the end Nyack won the battle out rebounding GCU 41-36.
  • Nyack finished shooting 23-of-65 and as a team shot 75.0 percent from the line (21-of-28).

The Warriors return to action on Wednesday February 5th for another home contest against Post University. The CACC match-up is slated for a 6PM start.
