DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Nyack College women's basketball team traveled to Mavericks Gymnasium to take on Mercy College in a non-conference showdown.
In the first half Mariana Joyner-Vila (Baltimore, MD) netted a 3-pointer with 5:44 reemaining to bring Nyack their first tie (23-23) of the game. Casey Sullivan responded for Mercy with a trey of her own to hold a 26-23 lead with 04:44 to play, as the freshman connected on three 3-pointers.
During the next possession Janay Truiett (Baltimore, MD) would score another 3-pointer for Nyack to aquire a second tie (26-26) as both teams alternated baskets during the closing minutes. By the locker room break Nyack would trail 35-32. Mercy returned for the second half and outscored the Warriors 50-27 to eventually seal the victory by a final score of 85-59 and sweep the season serise.
As a team the Mavericks shot 54.4 percent (31-of-57) while Nyack shot 20-of-69(29.0 percent). Mercy would outrebound Nyack 54-28 and acquired ten more second chance points than Nyack (18-8). The Warriors were successful forcing twenty seven Mercy turnovers and took advantage of scoring 25 points off Mercy's turnovers.
Guards Kelli Smoot (Baltimore, MD) and Jessica Logemann (Seminole, FL) each led Nyack with a team-high 14 points while for Mercy, forward Tanayzha Augustine led her team with a double-double from 15 points and 16 rebounds.
Warrior women's hoops (1-5, 1-0 CACC) will resume back to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Wednesday December 3rd to take on Dominican College, as the Warriors remain undefeated in league action.
