NYACK, NY - The Nyack College women's basketball team traveled to Bloomfield College where the Bears would outscore Nyack 51-28 in the second half to cruise their way to a 90-57 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory at the BC Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
This is the second consecutive game Warrior freshman Kelli Smoot (Baltimore, MD) would net double-figures on the day as the guard caught fire for a career-best and game-high 21 points. Smoot shot 7-of-18 from the field which included 3-of-5 from three-point land and converted a flawless 4-for-4 from behind the charity stripe.
Freshman teammate Alyssa Gatti (Brooklyn, NY), who also recorded double-figures, improved with a career-high 12 points in the losing effort while Raven Makins (Laurel, MD) yanked a team-high ten boards respectively.
Bloomfield held Nyack scoreless for the first 4½ minutes of play (9-0) before Gatti put the Warriors on the scoreboard and would continue to score the next four points for the team.
The Bears got ahead by as many as fourteen points (33-19) with 4:31 left in regulation. Warrior Smoot would score the next eight points to help build back momentum as the teams continued to rally but by halftime, Nyack would trail 39-29.
In the second half Nyack would get as close as within seven points (39-32) before Bloomfield used a series of runs to pull away; one which would include the Bears scoring nine back-to-back points to stretch the lead 50-32. The remainder of regulation would be more of the same as the Warriors eventually fell to the defending league champs 90-57.
Nyack outshot the Bears at the foul line with 80.6 percent (25-for-31) to note the team's best shooting all season.
Bloomfield would outrebound Nyack by a margin of 52-38 while forcing twenty-eight turnovers and netting twenty-eight points from the Warrior turnovers. Although Nyack outshot their opponents from three-point range, the Warriors would struggle getting inside as the team only scored eight points in the paint compared to the Bloomfield's advantage of netting fifty-four points inside.
Tierra Scott amazed with the double-double; 20 points and fourteen rebounds to lead Bloomfield in the winning effort.
Nyack is scheduled to host Felician College at Bowman Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 13th. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. Live stats and video links could be found on the complete 2014-15 women's basketball game schedule.
