NYACK, NY - The Nyack College women's basketball team overcame a twenty point deficit in the first half against Post University and would outscore their opponents 47-37 in the second half to force an extra period. In the end Nyack would get edged-out by the visiting eagles 76-73.
The Warriors were silenced for the first eight minutes of play (20-0) as Post jumped out to an early advantage before a Shabreka Edwards (Ashburn, GA) layup finally put Nyack on the score board at the 11:37 mark (20-2).
By 8:26 the eagles led by eighteen points as Nyack trailed 25-7. Freshman guard Alyssa Gatti (Brooklyn, NY) would register the last fourteen points of the half which featured a 14-6 Warrior run that brought the team into halftime trailing by ten points, 31-21.
During the second half, Nyack utilized shooting 55.6 percent from the field (15-of-27) to help get back into the game, but with both teams rallying back-and-forth, Nyack was unable to get within eight points and eventually fell to a sixteen point trail (52-36) at 10:27.
A series of late runs got the Warriors back on track and with under five minutes to play, Warrior Gatti sparked a 9-0 run that featured two clutch treys by Janay Truiett (Baltimore, MD), along with some luck on the foul line to bring Nyack to just a three-point trail by the 1:58 mark (64-61). With 00:05 left in regulation, free throws by Gatti tied the contest 68-68 and sent the teams to overtime.
The extra period was a closely contested five minutes of action but in the end Nyack would slip to Post 76-73.
Gatti caught fire to lead the Warriors with a career-high 27 points. Teammate Edwards tallied 14 points and Raven Makins (Laurel, MD) contributed with 13 points in the losing effort while yanking down a game-high 9 boards along with Warrior Tori Trador (Semenole, FL). Trador dished a game-high five assists and her big efforts on defense resulted in a game-high five steals respectively.
Nicole Sheloski led Post with 20 points while two other Eagles net double-figures; Deasia Acklin (17) and Jessica Ayala (10).

"We're interested in getting better daily. Our ladies showed incredible effort to get back into that game. I am pleased with how we competed and didn't pack in in when we got down big," stated head coach Dave Julien after the game.
