In a home Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match between the Bears of Bloomfield and Nyack College, the Warriors were unable to earn the victory for the night. Despite a high level of competition from the Warriors, the match would result in a victory for Bloomfield with a final score of 67-54. With the loss Nyack regressed to a 2-2 in conference record, while the Bears remained undefeated in the CACC.
How It Happened:
Nyack's sported two seniors as their top scorers in the home contest against Bloomfield College. Senior Raven Makins (Laurel, MD), who was the current CACC player of the week, posted 16 points for the Warriors and a season high of 14 rebounds. The senior also contributed 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. Makins earned a total of 15 shots from the free throw line, landing 8, and went 4 for 9 inside the paint. Senior Mariah Brown (Stockton, CA) added 14 points to the Warriors score, shooting 6 for 9 inside the paint and 2 for 2 at the foul line. The Warriors managed to tie the Bears 4 times throughout the competition, but, despite the efforts of the team, were unable to overcome Bloomfield to take the lead.
Bloomfield established themselves in the lead from the first quarter. Nyack tied the score in the first 10 minutes of play three separate times maintaining a high level of competition through the first and second quarter. Bloomfield was unable to distance themselves from the Warriors by more than 8 points for the entire first half. The second quarter concluded with a score of 29-21 as the teams retired to the locker rooms.
The third quarter began with the Bears extending their lead to 10 points, where they returned to consistently for half of the third quarter. In the last five minutes of the quarter, Nyack worked to close the score gap, coming within 4 points of the lead in moments, before the quarter concluded with a score gap of 6, 48-42. The Bears exploded into the final quarter of play extending their lead to 12 points early on in the 10 minutes of play. Nyack pushed to keep the Bears off the scoreboard, preventing them from scoring from 4:45 until 1:59 remained on the clock. Despite their incredible defensive efforts, the Warriors were unable to overcome the lead the Bears had established, losing the match with a final score of 67-54.
