Nyack, NY – The Nyack College women's basketball team was upended by the Dominican College Chargers on Thursday afternoon in a CACC match at Bowman Gym. The loss drops the Warriors' record to 3-15, 2-10 CACC, while Dominican improves to 7-15, 7-5 CACC.
The Charger got off to the better start, using a 10-2 run in the ifrst six minutes to earn a 8 point lead. Nyack woul answer with a 7-2 run of its own to cut the Dominican lead down to three, 9-12. The first quarter would eventually finish 12-16.
Dominican started the second quarter with 5 unanswered points to gain a 9-point lead with 8:25 to go. Nyack came back with a 12-4 run to cut the Charger lead down to one, 24-25, with 2:55 to playt in the first half. A Bryanna Brown jump shot would tie the game at the 1:34 minute mark, before Tayelor McCalister and Yamalis Villegas gave the Warriors a four point lead, 31-27, right before halftime.
Both teams battled back and forth during the third quarter. Nyack was able to defend its five point lead throughout the majority of the third quarter. However, Dominican tied the game in the last 60 seconds of the third, 46-46. Tayelor McCalister would give Nyack a two point lead from the free throw line to finish the third period.
Domincan would run hot in the last quarter earning a 15-point lead with a 17-0 run throughout the fourth quarter, 48-63, with 1:25 to go. Nyack would cut the lead back down to eight but was unable to come any closer. The game finished with a final score of 59-67.
The Warriors will be back in action this Saturday when they host Goldey-Beacom College for a CACC match at 1:00pm.
