Lady Warriors Fall on the Road to Tampa Spartans
The Nyack Warriors women's basketball team faced the University of Tampa Spartans in Nyack's first game of their Florida travels. The Warriors started off close but let the Spartans get just out of reach as Nyack lost 33-52.

In the first quarter, defense ruled on both sides as the first basket came almost three minutes into the game on a Kelli Smoot free throw. Her score opened the way for the Warriors to jump out to a 7-4 lead, but the Spartans scored 7 in a row to take the advantage. The score stayed tied at 9-12 for the last minute of the quarter until the Spartans made two quick free throws to put the Warriors down 9-14.

Despite Nyack's strong rebounding efforts, Tampa would score 8 more unanswered points until Yamelis Villegas' layup three minutes into the second quarter. The Warriors' offense started their drive, but their shots were matched almost exactly by Tampa for the rest of the quarter. A block by Imani Dawson thwarted a last Spartan attempt as the Warriors closed out the half down 16-29.

Starting the second half, the Warriors stayed close with the Spartans, with the teams alternating scoring through the third quarter. Bryanna Brown matched an Emily Eshoo three-pointer for Tampa with one of her own for Nyack with 14 minutes left in the game, but two quick rebounds led to two more baskets for the Spartans. Nyack ended the quarter down by 14 with 10 minutes left to play. In the fourth quarter, Nyack's offense attempted to close the gap but were hindered by turnovers as time wound down, ending the game in a loss.

Bryanna Brown again led the Warriors offense with 15 points, including two 3-pointers, and also had 7 rebounds. Jocelin Wright had 4 steals for Nyack's defense, and Imani Dawson added 2 blocks.

Up next, the Warriors face Minnesota State Moorhead in another Florida game on Saturday.
