Women's Basketball Posts Three Players With Double Digit Points in Loss to Mercy

Sparkill, NY - The Nyack College women's basketball team squared off with the Mercy College Mavericks in the second game of the STAC Basketball Classic at St. Thomas Aquinas College. 

THE BASICS:

Game Summary:

  • Nyack came out hot in the first quarter jumping to an early 14-2 lead, before the Mavericks rallied back to finish the quarter with a score of 14-16 in favor of the Warriors
  • Mercy pulled away in the second quarter with a 15-0 run, 16-29, which set them up for a 35-27 lead at halftime
  • Nyack fought their way back into the game and came within three with 3:29 left in the third which finished with the Warriors trailing by four, 48-52
  • the game remained close in the final quarter, but Mercy was able to fight off the Warriors in a game that finished with a final score of 71-82

Key Performances
Freshman Elle Nittinger led the Warriors with 22 points and seven rebounds. Yamalis Villegas scored 15 points from the bench going 3-4 from three point range and shooting 63% from the field. Kyla Given finished the day with a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

Nyack will have continue their road game series with a game on Friday at Franklin Pierce University. Tip off is scheduled for 1:30pm.
