Jasmine Cruse Double-Double Leads Warriors Past Mansfield in Home Opener

The Nyack College women's basketball team faced off in a home non-conference game against Mansfield University. In a game where the Warriors fought back from a slow start, they dominated the last two quarters of the game creating a big enough lead to secure the win. 

In the first quarter of the game both team went head to head will multiple trades in possession and tied scores. By the end of the first quarter the score was still low with Mansfield in a four point lead over the Warriors. Nyack was 13% from the field overall whereas Mansfield was 42.9% from the field. 

In the second quarter of the game, Mansfield continue to add to their lead, but at a score of 22-19, the Warriors began to pick up thier speed catching up to Mansfield tieing up the score at 24-24. The Warriors began to pull ahead in the last seven seconds of the game with a jump shot made by Brianna Williams. The Warriors had increased their overall field percentage to 43.8% in this quarter giving them momentum into the next. 

In the third quarter of the game, the Warriors started with a small lead in which the Warriors only built upon. Mansfield made many efforts to try and catch up to the Warriors, but Nyack continued to pull forward. At a score of 39-40, Mansfield tied up the score on a free throw. The Warriors quickly came back with a layup made by Jasmine Cruse to put the Warriors on the forefront again. The Warriors ended the quarter in the lead by two points with a totaled score of 45-47.

In the fourth quarter of the game, the Warriors began adding to their lead on a three point jump shot made by Yamalis Villegas and continued to push forward from there. On a three point jump shot made by Kyla Given the Warriors secured a ten point lead against Mansfield. The Warriors continued to dominate the court and finished the game with a final score of 57-70. 

The Warriors went 40% overall from the field with a 25% from behind the arc and a 60.7% in free throws. Offensively and defensively, Jasmine Cruse led the team with 18 total points, 15 rebounds and 1 steal.
