Women's Basketball Falls to Mercy on the Road

Dobbs Ferry, NY -- The Nyack College women's basketball team was back in action on Saturday afternoon before heading into Thanksgiving break. The Warriors squared off with the Mercy College Mavericks in a NCAA non-conference match. 

The first quarter was highly contested between both team and saw several tied scores and lead changes. It looked as if the Warriors would get out on top at the end of the first quarter, but the Mavericks made a last minute push to finish the first period 17-15. 

The Mavericks used a strong second quarter to take matters into their own hands with a 21-6 score in the second period, which saw them with s 17-point lead at the halftime buzzer. 

Mercy continued to keep the Warriors at a distance in the third quarter. Both teams struggled to convert on majority of their offensive drives, which saw Mercy come out on top of the third quarter with 14-10 and an overall score of 31-52 in favor of the Mavericks. 

Nyack made a final push in the last quarter to find its way back into the game. The Warrior offense managed to score 21 points in the final period shooting an impressive 50% from the field. But the Mavericks didn't allow any slip ups and kept Nyack out of the game by scoring 18 points of their own, which allowed them to close up the game with a final score of 70-52. 

Kyla Given led the Warriors with a game-high 15 points that was tied by Mercy's Amber Brown. Jasmine Cruse continued her impressive performance under the rim by pulling down a game -high 12 rebounds. 

Up next: The Warriors will enjoy a few days off before Thanksgiving, before they will host the UDC Firebirds on Saturday, November 30th at 1:00pm.
