Cruse's 26-Point Outing Not Enough to Lift Warriors Past Caldwell

The Nyack College women's basketball team faced off in a home conference game today against Caldwell University. The Warriors took the lead early on but was not able to sustain it for the whole game losing to Caldwell with a final score of 67-60. 

In the first quarter of the game the Warriors put themselves on the scoreboard first with a layup by Jasmine Cruse which set the tone for the rest of the quarter as the Warriors dominated. Nyack took the lead early on and managed to stay four points ahead of Caldwell for the whole period, ending it with a total score of 8-12 Nyack. 

In the second quarter of the game the Warriors had an advantage since they were in the lead and they managed to consistently stay in front of Caldwell. With five minutes left in the period, Kyla Given made a three point jump shot putting the Warriors ten points ahead of the opposing team. Caldwell began to fight back slowly bridging the point gap. With thirty-nine seconds left in the quarter Caldwell managed to make a jump shot that put them only one point behind the Warriors. The last play of the quarter with less than a second left Caldwell secured a jump shot putting them in the lead with a total score of 29-30 Caldwell. 

In the third quarter of the game, the Warriors prepared themselves to put up a fight. Jasmine Cruse tied up the score at 30-30 on a free shot. From there it was a close game where the Warriors trailed behind Caldwell by only a few points. The quarter ended with a total score of 45-46 Caldwell. 

In the fourth quarter of the game, Caldwell was the first to make a shot creating a bigger lead for them. The Warriors fell behind by ten points with three minutes left. They tried to bridge the point gap but was unable to produce anything promising losing the game with a final score of 67-60. 

Overall for the game the Warriors were 42.3% from the field, 20% from behind the arc, and 63.2% in free throws. Caldwell was 50% from the field overall, 35.7% from behind the arc, and 70% in free throws. The key players for the Warriors tonight were Jasmine Cruse, offensively, with a total of 26 points for the Warriors and Kyla Given, defensively, had nine total rebounds.
