The Nyack College women's basketball team played in a home conference game today against Georgian Court University. In a game that was cloe but led by Georgian Court, the Warriors managed to come back from a point deficit and secured the win for Nyack with a final score of 67-64.
In the first quarter of the game, Georgian Court started off putting themselves on the scoreboard first with a layup. The Warriors followed not too long after with a layup by Jordan Rivera. From there, the opposing team managed to create a lead forcing the Warriors to battle to come back from behind all throughout the first quarter. The totaled score at the end of this quarter was 21-16 with Georgian Court in the lead.
In the second quarter of the game, the Warriors still had plenty of time to catch up to the opposing team. Throughout the quarter, the opposing team kept their lead but with one minute left the Warriors managed to bridge the point gap as they were only one point behind Georgian Court. The opposing team combated this by only adding to their score forcing Nyack to try and keep up for the last couple of seconds. At the end of the quarter the score totaled out at 40-34 with Georgian Court in the lead still.
In the third quarter of the game, the Warriors found themselves in a ten point deficit which they had to come back from. With shots scored by Jasmine Cruse, Jenissa Encarnacion, Yamalis Villegas, and two free throws by Casiris Ruiz the Warriors managed to bridge the gap following the opposing team only by one point. Georgian Court followed Nyack's attempt to tie up the score by making their next few shots stealing the lead again. The score at the end of this quarter was 52-47 with Nyack still behind.
In the fourt quarter of the game, the Warriors picked up their pace utilizing their last chances to add a win to their record. With five minutes left in the game Jocelin Wright made a three pointer putting the Warriors in the lead for the first time this whole game. Georgian Court trailed two points behind Nyack but with two minutes left they tied up the game at 62-62. From there, the scored tied up again at 64-64 and with five seconds left in the game Jocelin Wright made a layup to secure the win followed by a free throw shot by Kyla Given.
Overall, the Warriors were 41.9% from the field, 15.4% from behind the arc, and 72.2% in free throws. Offensively and defensively, Jasmine Cruse led the team with 21 points, 11 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal.
