The Nyack College women's basketball team competed in an away conference game today against Caldwell University. The opposing team dominated the court in each quarter having higher statistical numbers than Nyack making it challenging for the Warriors to secure the win for their record. Nyack lost with a final score of 53-75.
In the first quarter of the game, the opposing took the lead quickly, leaving Nyack with only two points for a good portion of the quarter. At the time the Warriors had managed to add to their score they were already ten points down. Caldwell was 61.5% from the field and 71.4% from the three point line as compared to Nyack's 26.3% from the field and 37.5% from the three point line. The score totaled out at 14-23.
Despite the rought start, the Warriors managed to increase their numbers and at one point was only five points behind, but this was not enough to completely bridge the point gap. The Warriors stayed consistently ten points behind the opposing team throughout the second quarter and the score totaled out at 30-41.
With the Warriors still down in the third quarter, they were unable to produce anything promising. The Warriors had only scored ten points in this quarter as compared to Caldwell's twenty. With five seconds left in the quarter, the Warriors found themselves behind by twenty points and the score totaled out at 40-61.
In the fourth quarter of the game, the Warriors were already starting at a disadvantage and they were unable to come back from such a big gap of points. They were unable to sink the ball for the last two minutes and the game ended with a win for the opposing team.
Overall, the Warriors were 25.4% from the field, 18.2% from behind the arc, and 85% in free throws. Offensively Yamalis Villegas led the team with 15 total points. Defensively, Jasmine Cruse led the team with 10 total rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal.
