Women's Basketball Falls to Bloomfield on the Road

The Nyack College women's basketball team competed in an away conference game against the Bloomfield College Bears. In a game where the Warriors started off slow, they managed to come back and tie up the game in the second quarter but couldn't pul through with the win and lost by just a few points with a final score of 62-68. 

In the first quarter of the game, the Warriors lagged behin the Bears in their numbers. Nyack was 21.4% from the field and 27.3% from behind the arc as compared to Bloomfield's 42.9% from the field and 50% from three point line. The gap in the numbers contributed to the Warriors falling behind early on in the quarter. With two and a half minutes left, Nyack was down by tent points and wasn't able to bridge that gap ending the quarter with a total score of 10-16. 

In the second quarter of the game, the Warrior's numbers stayed relatively consistent with only a small increase in both their field and three point percentages but this was enough to help Nyack bridge their point gap and tie up the game at 23-23 with a free throw by Kyla Given. From there both teams went head-to-head to keep the lead but in the end Bloomfield managed to stay on top with a total score of 32-36. 

In the third quarter of the game, Nyack came out of the gate ready to fight for every point making a three point jump shot by Jenissa Encarnacion within the first ten seconds of the quarter. The game was then tied up by a free throw from Jasmine Cruse. Similar to last quarter, both teams competed to keep the upper hand but the Warriors fell short again ending just a few points behind Bloomfield with a total score of 47-53. 

In the final quarter of the game, the Warriors had stayed consistent in their numbers throughout the whole game, but their consistency wasn't enough to help them take the win. Bloomfield took the upper hand and added the win to their record. 

Overall, the Warriors were 26.8% from the field, 33.3% from behind the arc, and 67.9% in free throws. Offensively, Kyla Given led the team with 17 total points scored. Defensively, Sarah Wilson led the team with 8 total rebounds, 2 steals, and was the second highest in points with 12 total. 

Up Next: The Nyack College women's basketball team will face off in an away conference game against Dominican College on Saturday, February 29th at 1:00PM. This will the Warriors' last game of the regular season before playoffs.
