ORANGEBURG, NY (April 27, 2013)
In a non-CACC contest, Nyack would be defeated by East Coast Conference opponent, St. Thomas Aquinas College 21-2.
From what has been a long winless season, the Nyack Lacrosse Team will finally hang up their jerseys while taking away with them the many learned skills, lessons, and new friendships.
They can look back at this program for years to come and say they took part in jump starting the program. As many of them were athletes of another dominant sport. The ladies shared the following about their journey:
"This season was about laying the foundation and developing good character. We as a team were very intentional & accountable. I can honestly say the lacrosse foundation was Christ centered because of the great leadership through Coach Dietrich-Reis and our captains. I learned how to be part of a team with different levels of talent, I learned about submission, everything challenged me." -Rebecca Wakeley
"In general, to see more than 8 girls who never touched a lax stick in their life, be able to complete a full field pass, 8 meter shots, cradling and many other skills by the end of season was just unreal. To recover what most girls have done in 4 years of a varsity sport, we did it in 12 weeks. It's just raw talent and athleticism. We were hungry to learn and Coach was great and so patient with us." -Gabrielle Do
"I learned a lot about working together as a team. We played because we loved it. Although it's never easy to lose, we always took those losses and learn so much from them. All of our hard work paid off. We laid a good foundation of hard work that will only get better and better from here on out." -Lauren Lebo
Coach Anne Dietrich-Reis thanks her players for their commitment, the parents, and all the Warrior fans for their continued support during games.
As many plan to return and some not returning next season, having recruits come in for the upcoming season will have this program on the rise. We look forward to the 2014 lacrosse.
