NYACK, NY - The Nyack College Women's Lacrosse team is excited to announce the beginning of what will be predicted as a strong improvement after last year's inaugural season.
Nyack College Women's Lacrosse Head Coach, Anne Reis, comments: "We are building a program on hard work and integrity. We look forward to seeing what our progress will bring during full field play." The Lady Warriors have been training and preparing at a high intensity, and the 2014 season looks promising.
Former defensive player and current student assistant, Gabrielle Do, indicates: "There is great chemistry on the team. The bond is an extension of last year's hard work and dedication. It feels to good to say I was a part of the first Nyack College Women's Lacrosse team, but even better to see the new recruits assimilate to the team's values."
Since last year, the team has grown with six new players and one D1 transfer. Katie Bogucki, and Nicole Pilkerton will be joining defensive players Melissa Richards, Danielle Page, Sydney McIntosh, Stacey Cervantes, and Hee Jae Ko in protecting the net. New player and Freshman, Jacqueline Simeon, will be starting her collegiate athletic career as goalie, and is expected to increase her statistics. Midfield player and Division 1 transfer, Alyssa Paddock, indicates: "The defense has made significant improvements within the past month, and even more so since last season. I believe coach Reis' development of the zone and backer zone will prove to be a great advantage for the team as they seek to dissuade goals against. With a new strong goalie, and additions to the defensive roster, I foresee great success on the back end of the field."
Captain and Sophomore, Lauren Lebo, will lead the attack from the midfield and take the draw again for the Lady Warriors this year. Lebo states, "I am excited about the midfield this year because I think that the team as a whole is really starting to understand how each player is key in the field transitions. With the combination of new and returning players, we will be able to play with increased speed, skill, and a higher knowledge of the game. As we maximize each person's greatest strengths, we are able to play at a higher level and work as a whole team put the ball in the back of the net." New players: Amanda Carter, Allyson Rola, Christy Andrews, and former red shirt Grace Orbine will be joining Sarah Burnside and Victoria Lopez-Nash in the attack.
The Nyack College Women's Lacrosse Team was recently ranked 4th in the north division from release of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) 2014 Women's Lacrosse Pre-season Poll. This year's season will be a reflection of committed work ethic, dedication, and teamwork. The Lady Warriors season opener hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 5:30pm, is set to take place on Knight's Field at the University of Bridgeport due to snow and fieds contitions.
