Warrior Lacrosse Upended In CACC Action To Georgian Court

NYACK, NY - Sophomore Victoria Lopez-Nash and Stacey Cervantes each tallied a goal, but the Nyack College women's lacrosse team fell to Georgian Court University at home by a score of 20-5. Captain Lauren Lebo led the Lady Warriors with 3 goals, 4 ground balls, and a game-high 6 draw controls in the effort while teammate Cervantes, also splitting the team-best with Lebo, recorded 4 ground balls and 1 assist. Nash's lone goal debuted her scoring on the year and also won 4 draws respectively.

Inside The Game:
The Lady Warriors saw defeat on home turf after facing Georgian Court this afternoon. The first half was controlled by the Lions with the first two goals scored within two minutes of the game (2-0). Senior Cervantes scored off a free position shot shortly after putting the Warriors on the board 2-1. However, the GCU Lions re-attacked the net scoring three consecutive goals in three minutes of play (5-1). Warrior Lebo won draw control, and sophomore Lopez-Nash capitalized with a quick shot into the net for Nyack (5-2). Yet again, the Lions took possession of the ball and put it away seven times in a row as the score frflected 12-2. Cervantes assisted Lebo for the Warriors' third goal of the games (12-3) but with 6 seconds left on the clock, Melissa Williams of GCU scored lucky number 13 leaving the Warriors in running time with a 13-3 halftime trail.

The second half of the contest highlighted Nyack's ability to win the draw, but the Lions capitalized off the ground balls and scored six goals into the period (19-3). Nyack responded with Lebo winning the draw, keeping possession, and driving straight to goal for the team's fourth goal (19-4). Over the duration of ten minutes the Lions and Warriors ran full field with clear attempts on both sides. With six minutes left in regulation, the Lions took advantage of a solid clear and scored once again (20-4). With 5 minutes left in the second half, the Warriors pulled through with a free position shot goal by Lebo (20-5) to tally the last point for Nyack. Time would expire leaving the final score 20-5 as GCU walked away with their first conference victory.

Nyack goalie, Jackie Simeon, saved 7 shots - three short from her overall highest. Georgian Court's, Melissa Williams, scored 4 out of the 20 final points, while Lebo scored 3 out of the 5. The Lions capitalized on goal, taking 31 shots, while the Warriors led with ground balls by 1 (15-14). On the Lions side Melissa Williams led her team with a high of 4 goals while Catherine Dee dished 2 assists on the afternoon. Katelyn Murphy and Emily Gialanella each scooped up 4 ground balls for GCU. Overall, both teams showed good sportsmanship and solid play on the field.
