Nyack Holds Annual All-Sports Banquet

NYACK, NY - The Nyack College Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration on Sunday evening, April 27th at the institution's Boon Campus Center. Individuals from all 11 varsity teams were honored by their respective coaches.

It was a memorable night as the event not only marked the year-end accomplishments for the Warrior student-athletes, but recognized their thirty-five of their very own graduating seniors.

Each individual team also handed out its Most Valuable Player, Coaches Awards, Rookie of the Year, and/or Most Improved with the exception of some spring sports still in progress. All seniors received their Nyack Athletics memorabilia and student-athletes who earned a 3.50 gpa who were named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Academic team during their seasons were also acknowledged.

Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR), Dr. Jonathan Gates, distributed the Academic Achievement Award to sophomore Lauren Lebo (West Simsbury, CT) from the Women's Lacrosse team. Head Athletic Trainer Penny Foland along with her staff, John Allen and Hana Gross, distributed the 2013-14 Dr. John J. Sonzogni Jr. Memorial Comeback Award to Amanda Halter (Cheyenne, WY) from the women's soccer team and Allyson Rola (Beacon, NY) who played volleyball and lacrosse. This year's winners of the Harold W. Bowman Character Achievement Award Went to senior Matthias Westfall (Chowchilla, CA) representing Warrior Baseball and senior Kathleen McClain (New Haven, CT) representing Warrior Softball. The 2014 Jonathan L. Gainer Four Year Sportsmanship Award went to graduate Student Michelle Makela (Cocoa, FL) hailing from the women's volleyball team.

The Roy Buckhout Super Fan Award is given out annually to the Warrior Fan who has shown tremendous loyalty in following Nyack College athletics and was happily distributed to Steven Nelsen, Lecturer in Intercultural Studies at Nyack College. The 2013-14 Ernie Armoogam Warrior Award is given to one member of each team that best represents our Lord Jesus Christ to their team, opponents, fans, and community. The student athlete must have been eligible to participate in a varsity sport during the academic year for which the award is given and the individuals awarded were: Chiristy Degelman (West Milford, NJ) for women's soccer, Josh Schoch (Sparrowbush, NY) for men's soccer, Allyson Rola (Beacon, NY) for volleyball, Robert Lafond (Milford, CT) for men's cross country, Sabrina White (Carrolton, TX) for women's cross country, Camille Nwosu (Centreville, VA) for women's basketball, Victoria Lopez-Nash (Bayville, NJ) for lacrosse, Eric Roe (Arlington, TX) for baseball, and Matthew Yun (Flushing, NY) for Golf. 

Athletic Director Keith Davie named head baseball coach, Matthew Cornnachione, as 2013-14Nyack College Athletics Coach of the Year.
