Silvers and Wilmot lead Lacrosse in tough road loss at Converse

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Nyack College women's lacrosse team lost its first of two games to be played on their South Carolina trip. The Lady warriors squared off with Converse College and were upended 12-18 in a tightly contested match. 

The Warriors would jump out to an early lead with seven minutes played. Junior Victoria Silvers scored after assists by Abby Wilmot and Sarah Scheidt. Wilmot would score a goal of her own only a minute later to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead at the 22 minute mark in the first half. 

60 seconds later Converse answered with a goal of its own, before Silvers would add her second and third goal of the day within 10 seconds. That made the score, Nyack 4, Converse 1. 

The following minutes saw tons of back and forth actions with goals scored on both ends of the pitch. Silvers and Wilmot continued to be successful for the Warriors scoring one each over the next 11 minutes. Converse would score back to back goals at the 8th and 6th minute mark to cut the lead down to one goal, 6-5. Abby Wilmot  scored two more goals to earn her team a 8-5 lead. However, Converse was able to strike back and cut the lead back down to one. A very entertaining first half finished with a score of 8-7 in favor of the Warriors. 

Converse College came out determined in the second half scoring two in the first three minutes to take the lead for the first time in the game, 8-9. Abby WIlmot's fifth goal of the day  tied the score at the 23 minute mark, 9-9. However, Converse was able to explode over the next 16 minutes scoring nine unanswered goals to take a comfortable 18-9 lead. Nyack was not ready to give up as Victoria Silvers would score her goals 5th ,6th , and 7th goals to bring Nyack back withing six points.  The Warrior effort was not enough to get back into the game which eventually finished with a score of 12-18.

Nyack was led by Victoria Silvers with seven goals and Abby Wilmot had five goals. Wilmot also recorded a game-high 15 groundballs, while winning six draw controls. 

Up next: Nyack will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Newberry College for a 3pm contest.
