NYACK, NY - The Nyack College Women's Soccer team returned to their home field today hungry for a win after they dropped their season opener to St. Rose last Thursday. The Warriors faced the visiting St. Anselm College Hawks in a NCAA Regional match.
St. Anselm led with an impressive offense attacking the goal early and often throughout the match marking 26 shots with 15 shots on goal. The Hawks converted one of their many shots early in the game when Kendra Bonczar scored after 2 minutes of play. The Warriors were unable to respond with any shots against the Hawks net in the first period of the game. The period would close with a 11-0 shot advantage for the Hawks and a score of St. Anselm 1, Nyack 0.
Things didn't change much with the beginning of the second half. The Hawks would add 15 more shots and only one of them would hit the back of the Warrior net. St. Anselm's Corey Murray scored the second Hawk goal of the day with 6 minutes left in the game.
Unfortunately, as the 90th minute closed, the match would remain a shutout for the Warriors with a final score of St. Anselm 2 and Nyack 0.
