NYACK, NY - Nyack returned to the field after Tuesday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match against Felician University to face Mercy College in a non-conference match.
It was a game on one goal that was dominated by the Mavericks. Mercy recorded 16 shots in the first 45 minutes. However, they were unable to find the back of the net during majority of the first half. In the 42nd minute the referee called a foul on Sabrina Perri in the box and awarded a penalty to the Mavericks. Ileen Mejia finished the penalty kick and gave Mercy the 1-0 halftime lead. Nyack was unable to produce any shots during the first period, while sophomore goalkeeper Julianna Kranes recorded 7 saves.
The game continued to be one-sided during the second 45 minutes, as Nyack was defending deep and allowed the Mavericks the majority of possesion. In the 75th minute Jessica Brandt played a throughball to teammate Heidi Serna, who scored the second goal of the day. The game would conclude with a final score of Mercy 2, Nyack 0. The Mavericks outshot the Warriors 24-0 and Kranes finished the day with 12 saves.
The Women's Soccer team takes to the road this weekend as they face Georgian Court University in a conference match at 12pm Saturday, September 24th.
