Melanie Schanke Signs with Volleyball

Melanie Schanke is a 5' 8" outside hitter from Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford, Connecticut where she has played on the varsity high school team the past four years.  She was named to the 2012 Southern Connecticut Conference All-Housatonic Division Team and Team MVP her senior year.

She began playing volleyball in 6th grade and quickly developed a love for the sport that led her to play for the CT Juniors Volleyball Club beginning in her freshman year of High School. While playing with the CT Juniors, Melanie has travelled to tournaments in states such as Washington, D.C, Baltimore, MD, Lancaster, PA, Albany, NY, Dallas, TX, and Indianapolis, IN.   Melanie will be joining TCA Volleyball Club out of Fairfield, CT this upcoming season and is also grateful for the training she has received the past two summers at Bluestreak Sports Training in Stamford, CT, which helped her to really improve her game.

Melanie is the daughter of Ken Schanke and Michele Smith, both of Wallingford, CT.   She is the youngest of five siblings, which includes 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Melanie attends First Baptist Church of Wallingford, CT where she is a part of the Dominican Republic Mission Team where she served in La Romana, DR this past summer helping in the medical clinic and in other areas of ministry on the trip.

Melanie's desire for helping people is what drew her to Nyack's Nursing Program. Along with the strong spiritual aspect of the school, Melanie looks forward to being a part of the close-knit volleyball team along with developing spiritually and academically in the nursing program which she hopes will help her to continue to follow her heart to reach the lost for Christ through short-term missions.
