Volleyball Goes 1-1 At AIC Yellow Jacket Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, MA (September 21, 2013)

The Nyack women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the 2013 Yellow Jacket Tri-Match hosted by American International College (AIC) in Springfield, MA where they would compete against Northeast-10 opponents.

Warrior volleyball would defeat Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) 3-2 in a five match battle to open the day followed by a loss in three matches to conclude the evening with a 3-0 decision to Stonehill College.

Against SCSU, sophomore Samantha Garza (North Branch, MI) lead Nyack with 9 kills. Captain libero, Michelle Makela (Cocoa, FL) excelled on defence with 31 digs. Freshman Christy Andrews (Houston, TX), was solid at the net with 3 block assists.

In the second match of the day, Stonehill College handed Nyack its eigth loss of the 2013 season as three Skyhawks dominated with 8 kills a piece. Delia Phillips contributed with 13 digs and Abby Harte with 4 assists directed at the Nyack Warrior offense.

On the Warrior side, sophomore Garza, again, led Nyack offensively with 9 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while teammate Brianna Kane (Bethany, CT) hit .400 with 18 assists, nine digs, and two kills.

Nyack (5-8, 1-0 CACC) return to the court on the road Wednesday, September 25th for a CACC match up against Bloomfield College. First serve is set for 7pm.
