Volleyball Defeats Lady Deacons in Close Match, 3-2

BLOOMFIELD, NJ (September 25, 2013)

Lady Warriors women's volleyball played into an exciting fifth set tonight on the road with Bloomfield College. As CACC teams alternated set victories, Nyack was finally able to dominate the last match to lock in their 3-2 win and remain undefeated in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play (6-8, 2-0 CACC).

After two close sets by both sides, the Deacons would take the first and third match victories, going into the fourth set up 2-1. This was a turning point for the Warriors offense who did not back down despite trailing in the match.

Warrior Samantha Garza (North Branch, MI) led offense with 17 kills and on defense with 4 blocks throughout all five matches to keep Nyack in the game. The Lady Warriors won the fourth set and kept the momentum going right into the fifth deciding set.

Nyack would jump out into an early 6-2 lead before Bloomfield could finally add on to their score. As the match grew intense, the evening would finally come to a standstill as Nyack's 9-6 run earned them a final 15-8 win.

Juliette Monroy was the top scorer for Bloomfield as she tallied 17 kills. Paola Acosta gave the Decacons 2 blocks respectively.

On defense, Michelle Makela (Cocoa, FL) led Nyack in digs, posting an 18-17 advantage over Lady Deacon, Sharon Batiz. As a team, the Warriors would blast a statistical standing of 9 blocks as Bloomfield reflected 3.

"It was a true team effort. We had to make some adjustments going into the fourth match and thankfully we were able to pull it off," said ladies captain, Makela.

Nyack has a few days off to prepare for a tri-match hosted by Philadelphia University where they are slated to play the 3-0 CACC undefeated Lady Rams at 12:00pm followed by NE-10 opponent, Adelphi University, at 2pm.
