Women's Volleyball Edged by Caldwell, 3-1

CALDWELL, NJ (October 1, 2013)

The Nyack Warriors volleyball team played in an away Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match-up against Caldwell College.

Nyack would win the second set to tie the match 1-1 but sets three and four went in favor of the Lady Cougars as the Warriors were edged 3-1 at the George R. Newman Center.

Caldwell began the first set with a 0-2 advantage and Nyack remained trailing by eight points at 16-24. The Warriors would then score three straight points to force a timeout by the Cougars. From here Nyack would score another point, inching them closer 20-24 but the Caldwell team fired a kill to take the opening set 20-25.

Set number two saw Nyack grab their first 9-7 lead after rallying of a few consecutive points. The Cougars continued their strong play and would open their advantage by tying the game 19-19. Caldwell attempted to make a late comeback but Nyack would hold on as the points alternated back and forth until they finally walked away with the match win.

The third set saw both teams neck-and-neck with neither team gaining an advantage. After the score was 11-11 the Cougars would go on a 7-1 run to open some breathing room. Nyack managed to gain only four more points and Caldwell continued to battle as the walked away taking the third ser 15-25, now holding a 2-1 match advantage.

In the fourth, Nyack started out strong controling the scoreboard as they led up until 16-11. Caldwell bounced back to tie the set 16-16 as a timeout was called by the visiting team. The timeout would not slow down Caldwell as they continued plowing through a 7-1 run to allowed their first game lead at 16-18. The teams alternated leads up until a 25-25 tie which resulted in a 26-28 victory for Caldwell as they took the match, 3-1.

Freshman Christy Andrews (Houston, TX) led the offense for the Warriors with 13 kills and tallied 4 defensive blocks while graduate student Michelle Makela (Cocoa, FL) led Nyack with 22 digs. Senior Brianna Kane (Bethany, CT) posted 38 assists respectively.

Nyack (6-11, 2-2 CACC) will next host two home games Friday October 4th and Saturday October 5th against Felician and Holy Family.
