Volleyball Drops Home Opener to Visiting Mercy Mavericks, 3-0

After back-to-back weekends of tournament action, the Nyack College Women's Volleyball team took to their home court of Bowman Gymnasium for a non-conference season opener against local opponents from Mercy College. The Warriors would put on a thrilling show during the third match but in the end, would get edged out in three sets and fall to Mercy by match scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-22.

How It Happened:
The Warriors matched Mercy College in nearly every aspect the game this evening and Nyack's defense played an incredible match against the Mavericks offense. Where the Mavericks earned 28 kills, Nyack recorded 27. Mercy notched 60 digs, but Nyack tallied 62. While the Mavericks earned 38 points, Nyack only earned 35. The point for point struggle continued for a majority of each set.

Mercy led with an impressive offense, feeding Peyton Olson the ball 31 times earning 9 kills alongside Sa'Naya Johnson, who had 17 attempts and 8 kills with a .471 kill percentage.   The Warriors had three member reach double digits in digs throughout the match.  Sophomore libero Kelsi Collins (Tarpon Springs, FL) led the defense with 16 digs.  Freshmen Natalie Anderson(Tualatin, OR) and Elizabeth Moore (Surprise, AZ) each earned 10 digs of their own as top defenders on the court.

Their efforts gave setters Olivia Denny (Las Vegas, NV) and Anderson the ability to run the offense a total of 108 times. Sophomore Lindsay Miller (Chandler, AZ) capitalized on every opportunity provided earning 13 kills off of 28 attempts with only 3 errors.  Unable to eliminate a few errors separating the score gap, the Warriors lost to the visiting Mavericks with scores of 25-14, 25-17, and 25-22.
