Despite an amazing fight from the Warriors, Nyack was unable to overcome the Bloomfield College Bears in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Tuesday, October 13th.
How It Happened:
Sophomore Kelsi Collins (Tarpon Springs, FL) topped the Warrior defense covering vast portions of the court against the Bears offense earning 11 digs out of the team's total of 36. Close behind her were teammates sophomores Alexus Winters (Yorba Linda, CA) and Lindsay Miller (Chandler, AZ) and freshman Natalie Anderson (Tualatin, OR) each earning 6 digs. Winters demonstrated her versatility at the net earning 9 kills for the Warriors with 29 attempts mixing her attacks strategically. Collins and Winters were joined by senior Annah Aguilar (New Bloomfield, PA) at the service line as each aced Bloomfield's iron clad serve receive at pivotal points in play.
Sets 1-3 saw a court comradery flourish amongst the Warriors. The block across the net did not dissuade the Warriors, but rather encouraged them to get creative. Each teammate stepped outside their roles to cover attackers giving them the freedom to take risks. Hardly a ball dropped without a second, or third, touch, allowing Nyack to out produce the Bears in attempts for the entire match. The Warriors brought their signature long rallies against the Bears forcing them to earn every kill and point. In the first set, Nyack was able to secure a 7 point run at game point resulting in a final score of 25-17. The second set saw the Warriors go point for point with the Bears for the mid-portion of play before the Bears finished the game with a score of 25-16. The third set would conclude with a final score of 25-15 bringing the match to completion. The final score would be Bloomfield 3, Nyack 0.
The Warriors return with two home matches for the remainder of the week. On Thursday, October 15th, the Warriors will face Caldwell University in a CACC match at 7pm in Bowman Gymnasium. Saturday, October 17th, the Warriors will face Chestnut Hill in another CACC competition, as part of the Homecoming lineup, at 12pm. Come out and support your Warriors!
