In the Warriors final match of the 2015 season, Nyack took on Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference competitor the Caldwell University Cougars. After 3 sets filled with rallies and lead exchanges on the scoreboard, the Cougars would sweep the Warriors.
How It Happened:
With 7 kills and 1 solo block, sophomore Lindsay Miller (Chandler, AZ) led the Warriors from the front row and controlled the court as a setter from the back row earning 9 assists. Contributing to the setting front was sophomore Jillian Smith (Oceanside, CA) notching 11 assists. Smith was also able to manufacture 8 digs and 6 kills for the Warriors. In addition to her contributions on offense Smith chartered the Warriors into a 4 point rally in set one, for points 1-4, with 3 consecutive aces. Sophomore Alexus Winters (Yorba Linda, CA) added to the Warriors offense with 6 kills. On defense, sophomore Kelsi Collins (Tarpon Springs, FL) tallied 11 digs of the Warriors 41 total, as well as providing relentless coverage off of the Warriors 103 attempts.
Despite starting each set strong, the Warriors were unable to maintain control of the court and the score. Set 1 began with a 4 point service run from Smith before the Cougars regained control and exacted a 7 point retaliation. The two teams exchanged serves through until the Warriors were one point shy of the Cougars at 13-14. From there the Cougars a 3 point run and two 4 point rallies, each interrupted by a sole point for the Warriors, to claim the match 25-15. In set 2 the Cougars retained their momentum to 22 points allowing the Warriors to earn 8 points. The Warriors were able to manufacture a 5 point rally before the Cougars would seal the set at 25-13. The first 9 points of play in set 3 were exchanged back and forth through long volley's between the Warriors and the Cougars. Caldwell managed to achieve an average of 3 points to Nyack's 1 closing the match and winning the set 25-14.
The CACC match against Caldwell concluded the Warriors Volleyball season with in conference record of 1-18 and an overall record of 2-25. Winters topped the Warriors offense averaging 2.34 kills per set. Collins earned an average of 3.27 digs per set. Smith earned 32 service aces for the season, leading the Warriors. Miller consistently established herself on defense earned 21 solo blocks and 26 block assists.
