Through 4 tough sets of comparable competition and struggle for control of the scoreboard, the Warriors fell short of claiming victory against the Chargers of Dominican College. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference competition went to the Chargers in 4 sets.
How It Happened:
The Warriors brought a tough serving game to the Chargers earning 13 aces from the service line. Sophomores Lindsay Miller (Chandler, AZ) and Alexus Winters (Yorba Linda, CA) led the charge with 4 aces for the night, closely followed by sophomore Jillian Smith (Oceanside, CA) with 2. Rounding out the lineup, senior Annah Aguilar (New Bloomfield, PA), sophomore Kelsi Collins (Tarpon Springs, FL) and freshman Natalie Anderson (Tualatin, OR) each contributed 1 ace as well.
Nyack also out produced the Chargers in digs and attempts, courtesy of their signature long rallies. Winters and Anderson topped the defensive charts with 13 and 12 digs respectively. Miller was able to notch 10 digs for the night, leading to another double/double as she led the Warriors offense with 12 kills. Miller also earned 1 block with Anderson, while Winters and Aguilar recorded 2 blocks and Winters was able to achieve an additional solo block against the Chargers offense. Smith was second in kills for the Warriors with 11 well placed attacks.
The Chargers took the match in four sets earning sets 1, 2 and 4 while the Warriors won set 3. The first set was under Warrior control until the final points of overtime where the Chargers won by two, 26-24. Though the Warriors dug a hole in the beginning of the second set, they managed to lessen the score gap to 25-20 in the final rounds of play. Set 3 saw the Warriors carry a new momentum, dictating the tempo and course of play, taking the set with a final score of 25-19. In set 4 the Chargers returned to their original setter and adjusted against Nyack's pace to win the set 25-12 and claim the match with a final score of 3-1.
The Warriors return with a home game at 12pm Saturday, October 24th, against Holy Family University in a CACC contest. Come out and support your Warriors!
