In a Central Atlantic Collegiate College Conference match, the Nyack Warriors fell to the Felician College Falcons in 3 sets. The Warriors fought admirably to prevent the sweep, but were unable to overcome the Falcons in extra points of the third set.
How It Happened:
The Warriors produced a universal team effort against the Falcons, splitting the lead stats across individuals in every aspect of the game. Sophomore Alexus Winters (Yorba Linda, CA) topped the offensive charts earning 8 kills out of 27 attempts through a variance of attacks. Leading the team in service aces was senior Annah Aguilar with 3 aces for the night. Sophomore setter Jillian Smith (Oceanside, CA) was able to garner 14 digs, the most for the Warriors, without disrupting her setting game as she also earned 15 assists. While every Warrior earned a block against the Falcons, sophomore Lindsay Miller managed to tally 3 blocks, shutting down the Falcon offense and creating ample opportunities for the Warriors to score.
The Warriors struggled to gain momentum in set 1 until late in the game when Felician had already reached 17 points. Nyack managed to two separate 4 point rallies off of kills by Winters and by utilizing errors made across the net. The Warriors managed to close the score gap to 20-15, but would not be able to score past 15 as the Falcons took advantage of technical errors and earned set 1 with a score of 25-15. In set 2 the Warriors battled early, but due to a Falcon rally of 8 points mid game, were without enough time to overcome the Falcons. Set 2 closed out with a final score of 25-18. The Warriors rallied for battle in set 3, exchanging the lead and breaking ties with the Falcons from point one until point twenty-five. Nyack exposed weaknesses on the Falcons court and sophomore Kelsi Collins (Tarpon Springs, FL) covered each hitter, preventing Felician from earning as many blocks as possible. The game extended into extra points, but unfortunately the Warriors were left defeated 27-25. The final score would land in Felician's favor as a 3-0 victory.
Nyack Volleyball returns with the final home game of the season on Tuesday, November 10th, at 7pm in Bowman Gymnasium. The Warriors will begin their final week of competition against CACC competitor Bloomfield College. Come out and support your Warriors!
