Nyack Volleyball entered their last home game of the 2015 campaign against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference competitor, the Bloomfield College Bears. The Warriors and the Bears faced earlier in the season, where the Bears earned a 3-0 victory. Despite long rallies, and impressive play from the Warriors, Tuesday's match would also result in a 3-0 victory for the Bears.
How It Happened:
Nyack's offense would be the most successful in set 1, earning 10 kills against the Bears defense. Sophomore Alexus Winters (Yorba Linda, CA) led the Warriors with 10 kills for the match, out of 29 attempts. Every Warrior tallied a kill against the Bears in varying increments. Freshman Natalie Anderson (Tualatin, OR) notched 5 kills, sophomore Lindsay Miller (Chandler, AZ) earned 3, sophomore Jillian Smith (Oceanside, CA) and Senior Annah Aguilar (New Bloomfield, PA) each recorded 2, and sophomore Kelsi Collins (Tarpon Springs) took 1 as well. The Warriors claimed 3 points from the service line as Smith powered her way to 2 aces and Aguilar, after several long serving runs, earned 1.
Nyack's defense proved themselves to be resilient and daring; hardly letting any ball hit the floor. Winters would, again, lead the Warriors with 13 digs, along with countless efforts made to cover her teammates. Collins and Anderson followed closely with 8 digs each, as did Aguilar and Smith with 6 digs. Leading the charge on defense at the net was Miller, who had 4 solo blocks against the Bears, crippling the Bears offense.
The three sets each saw competitive play from point 1 forward. The Warriors and Bears would exchange the lead and fight for control through each match, before the Bears would manage to gather enough momentum to dash away with a victory. Set 1 would end with a score of 25-14, while sets 2 and 3 would match with scores of 25-18, resulting in a 3-0 win for the Bloomfield College Bears.
Nyack will travel to play their final game of the 2015 campaign against CACC opponent the Caldwell University Cougars. In the previous match between the Warriors and the Cougars, Caldwell emerged victorious, but not without Nyack stealing a set from them. The final match will occur Saturday, November 14th, at 12pm.
