Warriors defeat Chargers in a five-set thriller, 3-2

Orangeburg, NY– The Nyack College volleyball team defeated the Dominican College Chargers in a hard fought 3-2 battle on Tuesday night (26-24, 23-25, 25-17, 21-25, 17-15).

The Warriors would take the first set, 26-24, after hitting .054 during the set with 8 kills.

The second set saw the Warriors battle Dominican closely, but the Chargers would hold on for a 25-23 victory to tie the match 1-1. Nyack would answer with a 25-17 set to regain the lead. However, Dominican was able to take the fourth set with a score of 25-21 and forced the fifth and final set of the match. Nyack would come out on top of the fifth set with a final score of 17-15 to seal the 3-2 victory. 

Megan Ma'afala-Maiava led the Warriors with a team high 13 kills, while adding 14 digs. Alexus Winters chipped in 33 digs and Olivia Denny (17) and Kaitlyn Massey (21) helped orchestrate the offense with a combined total of 38 assists.

Nyack hit .153 in the match with 50 kills and 81 digs, while Dominican hit.118 with 46 kills and 69 digs.

The Warriors will be back in action this upcoming Friday, October 14, when they host Post University. The match will start at 7pm.
