Warriors Split On Second Tri-Match Weekend in a Row

The Nyack Warriors volleyball team hosted two non-conference matches in a tri-match, claiming a victory over Mercy College and losing to the College of St. Rose.

In the first match of the day against Mercy, Nyack started strong and did not let up throughout in a 3-0 win. In the first set, the Warriors relied on tough serves to create opportunities for them to score, jumping out to a 9-1 lead that they maintained for the rest of the game. The Warriors took the first set 13-25. The second set was much of the same, with Nyack earning points on offense thanks to solid passing from the defense, and Nyack won the set 17-25. In the third set, the Warriors continued pushing through with their serving and attaching. In the last points of the game, Nyack held off a late Mercy surge to win the third set 26-24.

Senior Alexus Winters led the Nyack offense with 12 kills, and tied with freshman British Dawson for the highest amount of digs with 17 each. Freshman Rachel Medin added 24 assists, and Nyack earned 12 aces overall as a team.

In the second match against the College of St. Rose, the Warriors were not able to pull out another win , dropping the match 0-3. The first set saw Nyack and St. Rose battle back and forth during the beginning of the game, but St. Rose started to pull ahead and the Warriors were not able to keep up. Nyack lost the first set 17-25. In the second set, the Warriors held a slim lead for almost the entire game due to their solid defense. But St. Rose went on a run of 5 unanswered points to close it out, and Nyack dropped the second set 23-25. In the third set, some Warriors errors put them down at the start. Nyack answered with some strong kills to get them back in the game, but St. Rose's early lead proved to be enough to finish the match, and Nyack lost the third set 16-25.

Kyra Zuhlke had 8 kills and Olivia Denny had 11 assists for the Nyack offense, with British Dawson and Alexus Winters contributing 13 digs each.

The Warriors will travel to Bloomfield on Tuesday for a conference matchup.
