Volleyball Opens CACC Action with 3-1 Win Over Concordia

Bronxville, NY - The Nyack College volleyball team opened its 2018 CACC campaign with a 3-1 win over the Concordia College Clippers on the road. With the win the Warriors are 1-0 in conference and 2-5 overall.

Nyack vs. Concordia (14-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-23)

The Warriors jumped to a 4-2 lead early in the first set, but the Clippers came back and took the lead and ran away with it finishing the first set with a final score of 25-14. Nyack started off better in the second set with going up 9-4, but the Clippers showed resilience and fought their way back into the game with 7 consecutive scores going up 11-9. The Clippers continued to add on to their lead going up 17-13. Nyack came back to tie the game 17-17. With the score tied at 23 back to back kills by sophomore Kyra Zuhlke secured set two for the Warriors with a score of 25-23.

Nyack jumped to an early 10-5 lead and held on to their advantage for the majority of the third set. The Clippers slowly worked their way back into the set but were unable to tie the set, which ended with a final of 25-20. The Clippers came out on top in the beginning moments of the fourth set earning a 9-6 lead. They extended their three point lead to five, 16-11, before the Warriors used a 10-2 run to take the lead in set four, 21-18. The Warriors defended that small margin until the end winning the fourth set with 25-23 and the game with a final score of 3-1.

Nyack was led by sophomore Kyra Zuhlke with 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .406. She was closeley followed by Megan Ma'afala-Maiava with 13 kills, Larreya Hayden with 9 kills and Abby Wright with 8 kills. Rachel Medin orchestrated the Nyack offense with 38 kills, while also adding 17 kills to earn her third double-double in a row.

Up next: The Warriors will travel to Albany this Saturday when they take on the St. Rose Golden Knights and the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks in trimatch action. The games are set for 2pm and 4pm.
