Volleyball Comes Up Short in Battle With GCU Lions

Nyack, NY - The Nyack College volleyball team hosted the Georgian Court University Lions in a CACC matchup on Tuesday night. The game ended with a final score of 2-3. With the loss the Warriors fall to 2-8 and 1-1 in CACC play.

Nyack vs. GCU (23-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-22, 10-15)

The Warrios jumped to an early 8-3 lead in the first set, But the Lions eventually came back and took set one with a score of 25-13. Nyack started better in the second set as well earning a 4-1 lead. Georgian Court turned it around and took the lead with the score at 7-5. Both teams battles back and forth. With the score tied at 9 the Warriors pulled away and held on to their lead taking set two with a score of 25-19.

The Lions set the direction early in set three with a 11-4 start into the game, which set them up for a 25-18 victory in set three. But the Warriors were not done yet. The Lions looked like the sure winners in the fourth set when they were up 18-14. But Nyack pulled out a 11-4 run to take set four with a final score of 25-22, pushing the match to a game-deciding fifth set.

The Lions gained the upper hand early in the fifth and held on their lead which earned them the victory on the day with a final score of 2-3.

Nyack was led by sophomore Kyra Zuhlke with 13 Kills. Megan Ma'afala-Maiava added 12 kills, while Larreya Hayden contributed nine. Rachel Medin orchestrated the Warrior offense with 36 assists, while British Dawson led on the defensive end with 18 digs.

Nyack will be back on Friday when they travel to local rival Dominican to square off in a CACC match at 7:00pm.
