Nyack, NY - The Nyack College volleyball team hosted CACC North Division leaders Caldwell University on Wednesday night. Caldwell entered the game with a 4-0 CACC record and was upset by the Warriors for the first time since October 11th, 2013. The game ended with a final score of 3-1 for the Warriors.
Nyack vs. Caldwell (25-23, 13-25, 25-17, 25-17)
Nyack got off to the better start set one jumping to a 10-6 lead. The Warriors held on the their lead with the score 17-13. Three consecutive points brought the Cougars back within one, 16-17. But the Warriors answered with three unanswered points of their own to restore their four-point lead and took set one with a final score of 25-23.
Caldwell came out on top in the second set when they earned an early 14-5 lead which set them up for a 25-13 success. Nyack came back in the third set of the game. With the score tied at eight Nyack pulled away by four. The Warriors added to their lead extending it to eight, 23-15, and eventually finished the set with 25-17.
Nyack made a final push to take their first win over the Cougars since 2013 when they jumped to an early 10-6 lead in the fourth set. The Warriors added on to their four-point lead adding another five scores to earn a 20-11 advantage. The Cougars pushed back coming back within five, but Nyack was able to close out the game with three consecutive points scored to take the fourth set with a final score of 25-17.
With the win the Warriors improve to 3-2 in CACC play. Nyack was led by seniors Larreya Hayden (13 kills) and Megan Ma'afala-Maiava (11 kills). Rachel Medin orchestrated the Warrior offense with 35 assists, while adding 15 digs on the defense end. British Dawson also put in work on the defensive side with 20 digs.
Up next: The Warriors are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Philadelphia to square off with the Chestnut Hill College Griffins. The game is scheduled for 12:00pm.
