The Nyack Warriors volleyball team competed in another non-conference Tri-Match this weekend against College of Saint Rose and Lock Haven University. The Warriors took LockHaven to 4 games but lost to Saint Rose in 3.
The Warriors faced off against Lock Haven first. In the beginning of the first set, the Warriors kept up with the Bald Eagles. Abby Wright scored a point on a kill that tied up the game at 7-7, but the Warriors slowly began to fall behind from there. At a score of 8-10, the bald eagles scored three kills in a row putting them five points ahead of the Warriors. Nyack was able to brdige some of the point gap but was consistently behind the Bald Eagles by two points until a score of 14-16 where Lock Haven pulled ahead. Nyack managed to score only one more point ending the game 15-25 Lockhaven.
In the second set, the Warriors picked up their game taking the set past 25 points in order to steal a set from Lock Haven. Falling behind early in the game, the Warriors had to fight to come back and bridge the gap. With two kills from Kirby Cuellar, one from Rachel Medin, a service ace by Shayna Timson and a few attack errors from the other team, the Warriors were able to come back and tie up the game 22-22. Fighting to win the set, the Warriors fought hard but ended up falling short losing 25-27 Lock Haven.
In the third set, both teams were neck and neck throughout the whole game but at a score of 15-15 Nyack pulled ahead with a service ace by Shayna Timson, and kills by Cassady Hymes and Abby Wright. With the lead, the Warriors were able to steal a set from Lock Haven ending the game 21-25 Warriors.
In the fourth and final set, the Warriors were unable to pull through to bring the game to a fifth set. Nyack started the game off slow falling behind Lock Haven early in the set. The Warriors were unable to bridge the gap of points losing the set 20-25 and giving Lock Haven the win.
In the first set against St. Rose, the Warriors started off strong earning the first two points of the set, one on a service ace by Rachel Medin. Both teams traded points until a score of 7-9 when St. Rose managed to score four points in a row taking the lead. The Warriors fought to score a few more points but the set ended with a score of 13-25 St. Rose.
In the second set, Nyack started off two points behind St. Rose but had some great kills by Abby Wright, Kirby Cuellar, Shayna Timson, and Rachel Medin who attempted to catch Nyack up. At a score of 9-12 St. Rose took off scorring 5 points in a row and creating a lead that the Warriors could not come back from. St. Rose swept the set with a final score of 25-11.
In the third and final set, both team started off strong stealing points from each other and for most of the game, Nyack and St. Rose were trading points. St. Rose was able to pull ahead in the last few points taking both the set and the whole game with a final score of 21-25.
The Nyack Warriors Volleyball team will face off in their first conference match against Post University away on Wednesday September 18th at 7:00PM
