New Haven, CT (October 2, 2012)
Nicole Pagan, a freshman out of Hebron High School in Carrolton, TX has been named for the first time this season, CACC Rookie of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office today.
This past weekend in Salisbury, MD she took home 10th place out of 117 runners at the Don Cathcart Invitational with a personal-best time of 23:03 over the 6k course.
Pagan is the second cross country athlete having represent Nyack College for such honors, winning her first career CACC Rookie of the Week in just her fifth collegiate race.
Pagan adds her name to the list of Warrior freshmen to win the weekly nominated award, as fellow teammate Rebecca Wakeley (Pittsburg, PA) previously won CACC Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 5 and Sept. 26 respectively.
"I was really impressed with Nicole this past weekend," says head coach Latia Deylii. "This is all still very new for her. She's getting stronger, racing smarter, and did a great job getting herself out there working hard to not only maintain position, but then fought a good fight to the finish by outkicking a girl to secure her spot in the Top-10."
The Lady Warriors look forward to a break from racing this weekend and will host their Running Warrior 5k Road Race – taking place on Saturday, October 13, 2012 – followed by another week of noncompetition before leading up to the big CACC Championship meet in Philadelphia, PA.
