Newark, NJ- The Warrior's defeated the Bloomfield College Deacons in the first game of theseason by a score of 10-1 this afternoon at Westside Park.
Nyack would get the wheels turning early in the top of the 1st inning when Senior TJ Briggsdelivered an RBI single to score Sophomore John Kennedy. The Warriors would total 3 runs inthe inning off a couple of Deacon misplays.
Then in the top of the 3rd inning Sophomore Brent James would double in Briggs and SophomoreKris Chatman. James would score later that inning on a pass ball to make the score 6-0.
The Warriors would strike again in the top of the 5th inning off an RBI single from the bat ofSophomore Cole Tobin which scored Sophomore Phil Erwin. Nyack would tack on another runby a ball put in play by Junior JP Crespo, scoring Briggs from 3rd.
Briggs would push another run across with his 2nd RBI of the game coming in the 8th inning tomake the score 10-1.
Tobin would pitch the Warriors to their first win of the season, throwing 7 strong innings, 0walks and 6 strikeouts. Freshman Cody Harvey would seal the deal with a scoreless 2 innings inrelief.
Behind the dish, Senior Mike McConnell would throw out the only 2 Deacons attempting to stealin the game.
The Nyack Warriors would tally 5 steals (3 Kennedy, 2 Briggs).
Three Warriors would have multi hit games (James 3, Briggs 2, and Tobin 2).
The Warriors return to action this afternoon against cross town rivals St. Thomas Aquinas fora double header starting at 12pm and 3pm. The games will be played at Diamond Nation inFlemington, New Jersey.
