POMONA, NY (April 6, 2013)
The men's baseball program would collect three CACC wins in a 24 hour span all at Provident Park, culminating with a 2-game sweep of Post University yesterday by scores of 5-4 and 9-6.
Post would take a 4-0 lead until the bottom of the 5th inning when John Kennedy would score from 2nd base on a misplayed ground ball off the bat of Cole Tobin making the score 4-1. Nyack would add their second run in the bottom of the 7th when a Tobin double to right center scored Kris Chatman from 2nd, making it a 4-2 game. Nyack would tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the 8th after an rbi double from Eric Roe, and a pinch-hit game tying single off the bat of Jose Rodriguez.
Post would threaten with runners at 1st and 3rd in the top of the 9th with one out, but an usual 5-4-2 double play would see Chatman throw the potential go-ahead runner out at home who was unable to slide past the Jose Rodriguez tag.
Chatman would start the Warriors off in the bottom of the 9th with a leadoff bunt single down the third base line which was thrown into right field, advancing Chatman to second base with no outs. Jan-Pierre Crespo would execute the sacrifice bunt to get Chatman to third, and Tobin would drive in Chatman to give the Warriors the walk-off win.
Tony Campbell picks up his first career victory, collecting two important outs in the top of the 9th after coming in relief of Mike Teti who blanked the Eagles for 3 consecutive frames. Logan White gets the no-decision, tossing 5 innings and striking out 5 Eagles.
Kennedy, Chatman, Tobin and Mike McConnell would each post multiple hit efforts in the game one win.
Post would jump ahead early in game two, posting two unearned runs off Nyack starter Erik Puterio in the top of the first. Nyack would add a run in the bottom half of the opening frame when a Chatman rbi groundout scored Kennedy from third.
Post would lead 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 2nd, but the Warriors would add 4 runs on an rbi double from Kennedy, an infield single from Chatman, and a 2-rbi single from Crespo to put the Warriors up 5-3. Kennedy would drive in the Warriors 6th run an inning later on a push bunt to the first baseman which scored TJ Briggs. A two run single off the bat of McConnell created a 3-run 4th to make the score 9-3.
Post would rally with 3 runs in the 7th to make the score 9-6, but Tony Campbell would nail down a 3-inning save to preserve the Nyack victory.
Kennedy would finish game two, 3 for 4 with 2 rbi's and McConnel would also post a 2-hit, 2 rbi performance. Chatman and Crespo also drove in two runners a piece.
Erik Puterio collects his first victory of the season, pitching 6.1 strong innings of work, allowing 4 runners and striking out three. Tony Campbell collects the save in game two, pitching 2.2 innings, allowing zero runs and striking out three.
Nyack sits at 3-4 in CACC play with 4 conference games this week: Bloomfield College Wednesday and Chestnut Hill Saturday.
