Dobbs Ferry, NY - The men's baseball team defeated the Mavericks of Mercy College this afternoon at Maverick Field on the campus of Mercy College by a score of 6-4. The non-conference win brings the Warriors season record to 20-14 on the season.
The Warriors would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, when Josh Brunvoll scored from 2nd base on a diving play on a fly ball off the bat of Brent James. The Warriors would add 3 runs in the 5th, all coming with 2-outs. Tino Pardo would begin the Nyack rally with a walk, would steal second base and score on a Brunvoll rbi single. Cole Tobin would follow Brunvoll's single with his 4th homer of the season, a line drive off the left field foul pole to give Nyack a 4-0 lead.
Mercy would score a run in the bottom of the 7th, but Nyack would answer with 2-runs in the top of the 8th. Scott Murphy would hit a line single into left center field on a 3-2 pitch, scoring Brunvoll and Nick McConnell from first base, giving Nyack a 6-1 lead. Mercy would make some noise in the bottom of the 9th, getting 3 runs across before Nyack claimed the 6-4 victory.
Dalton Kern picks up his first collegiate win, pitching 7 strong innings, allowing 5 hits and striking out 4 Mavericks. Mike Langston would come on to collect his first collegiate save, Nyack's 20th win of the season.
Brunvoll and Tobin would each post multiple hit efforts in the win, with Brunvoll scoring 3 of the Warriors six runs on the day.
Nyack returns to conference action tomorrow when they are hosted by Dominican College for a DH tomorrow at Provident Bank Park. First pitch is slated for 3 PM.
