Nyack, NY - The men's baseball team took game 1 of their two game conference set versus Post by a score of 18-0 this evening at Nyack High School. The win brings the Warriors CACC record to 4-3 on the season.
Nyack would break open the scoring in the top of 4th when a hard hit ball off the bat of Ruben Correa forced a Post miscue and brought in the Warriors first run. Carlos Pino would bring in the 2nd run with a bases loaded walk and Correa would score Nyack's 3rd run of the inning when he scored on wild pitch with 2-out.
Three RBI singles in the 6th inning from Jesse Barton, Pino and John Kennedy would stretch the Nyack lead to 7-0. Yoni Rodriguez would put an exclamation mark on the Warriors offensive performance when he belted a 3-run homer, the first of his college career, extending the Nyack lead to 12-0 after 8.
Barton and Rodriguez would again plate runners in the top of the 9th with back to back extra base hits to make the final score 18-0.
Jack Kelley would throw 8 scoreless in a combined shutout, tallying 11 strikeouts against 1 walk and allowing just 5 hits. Omar Celaya would notch two K's in the final frame of a strong Nyack pitching effort.
The Warrior offense would pound out 15 hits in the win, getting multi hit efforts from Kennedy, and the 3 through 8 hitters in the lineup: Erwin, Kahl, Correa, Rodriguez, Barton, and Pino. Rodriguez would tally a career high 5 rbi in the win.
The first game in today's doubleheader was postponed to April 11th due to the rain.
Nyack returns to action this Tuesday when they take on Caldwell College at Kiwonnis Oval for a 3 PM/6 PM CACC DH.
