Caldwell, NJ - The men's baseball team collected two conference victories this afternoon, sweeping Caldwell College by scores of 6-1 and 3-2. The two wins pull the Warriors conference record to 6-3 on the season.
Game 1 Recap:
The Warriors would open their day with a 3-run first inning in game 1. Ruben Correa would deliver a 1-out bases loaded 2 rbi single, and Jesse Barton would drive in the Warriors third run on a fielders choice to make the score 3-0 Nyack.
Caldwell would add 1 in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 2, but Nyack would extend their lead to 5-1 in the top of the 5th. Yoni Rodriguez would bring home Phil Erwin on a safety squeeze to make the score 4-1 and Jesse Barton would bring in Yoni Rodriguez on an infield single with Rodriguez hustling the whole way from 2nd base to give Nyack a 5-1 advantage.
Another safety squeeze from Erwin scoring John Kennedy brought in Nyack's final run of game 1 making the score 6-1.
Erik Bussey would go the distance to pick up his 4th win of 2016, pitching 9 innings, scattering 6 hits, walking 1 and striking out 3.
Ruben Correa would go 4 for 4 in game 1 and Kennedy would swipe a pair of bases in the win.
Game 2 Recap:
Nyack would again get on the board in the opening frame of the night cap to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. Kennedy would lead off the game with a single to left, and after stealing 2nd base would move to third on a sac bunt from Christian Benitez before coming home on a sac fly off the bat of Erwin.
The Warriors would use a less traditional method to bring in runs 2 and 3 in the 4th, when Jack Hudak executed a perfectly placed, 2-out hit and run that fell between 3 diving Caldwell defenders. down the right field line Rodriguez would come in from third and Barton would also score all the way from first to give Nyack a 3-0 advantage.
The score would remain 3-0 until the 6th inning, when the Cougars would take advantage of several Warrior miscues to make the score 3-2.
Tony Campbell would come in and slam the door shut, keeping the Cougars off the board for the final 3 frames and preserving the Warrior win.
Jose Corrales picks up the win, dealing 6 innings of 6-hit ball, striking out 11 batters and walking 2. Campbell would strike out 4 of his own over the final 3 frames, earning his first save of the season.
Kennedy, Benitez, Barton and Hudak would each collect 2 hits in game 2 with Kennedy taking another pair of bases in the nightcap.
Nyack returns to non-conference action tomorrow when they travel to take on Molloy College in Rockville Centre, NY at 4 PM.
